| Even at age eight PATHKI NANA knew she was a failure. It seemed that she could do nothing right. The village people knew her as the "sad one". Only her grandmother, Quiet One, took time to comfort and encourage Pathki when she needed it most. Pathki carried a deep fear of the man called, Cut Ears. Cut Ears had come from a tribe on the far side of the mountains asking for the help of the Kootenai people. He said he was falsely accused of being a traitor to his people who then cut his ears and banished him from their village forever. The friendly Kootenai people took the stranger into their village to live. Pathki Nana, in a strange series of events, learns that Cut Ears is stealing from the Kootenai people and is truly evil. When Cut Ears realizes that Pathki has discovered his betrayal of the Kootenai people, he comes after Pathki to end her life and silence her forever. Pathki has to call on all her resources and skills to survive being hunted down by the evil Cut Ears. PATHKI NANA:KOOTENAI GIRL SOLVES A MYSTERY is a moving story of a young girl who is called upon to prove herself or die. Once you start reading Pathki's story you won't want to put it down. PATHKI NANA has also won the Wyoming Children's Book Award. |
