Two young girls living thousands of miles apart meet each other on the Nebraska prairie in
1856. Emma, a Danish girl, is traveling with her mother and teenage brother. They are part of
company of about five hundred Mormon Pioneers pulling their handcarts from Iowa City,
Iowa to Salt Lake City, Utah. In only a few hours Doe Sia, a Bannock Indian girl, and Emma
become good friends as they frolic with Doe Sia's pet dog in the North Platte River. Little do
they know that disaster awaits the Willie Company of pioneers as they work their way across
the state of Wyoming. Short on food and without warm clothing or blankets the handcart
pioneers are hit by a viscious fall blizzard. When Emma leaves her mother to go back and
help a starving friend, the girl becomes lost. Curling up to die in the blinding snow, Emma
seems doomed. Surprisingly Doe Sia is lost in the same blizzard. It will take a miracle to avoid
the death of one or both of these young girls. DOE SIA:BANNOCK GIRL AND THE
HANDCART PIONEERS is packed with family love and dedication to religious freedom. At
the same time it shows how two girls from totally different backgrounds can come to love
each other and together survive a brutal storm.
